General Meeting:Mar
11, 2002 at 7:30 PM at the Eagles Lodge on 9th St.
A HUGE THANK YOU!!:The Sportsmen's Association wishes to thank Tom
Obergon and his kitchen crew for an excellent wild game feed dinner. All
this comes about through the many hours of meat preparation by Ron Bruno
and Irv Garney. Thanks also to Matt Gutzwiler for his many
months, days and hours putting the dinner together. Another thanks goes to the
crew who worked in the kitchen preparing the dinner, washing dishes all day
long and into the night and to the crew who set up the dining room and games. A
very sincere thanks to those who stayed behind to clean up the dining room and
kitchen. This was by far the largest and quickest clean up crew we have had.
An Extra Thank You:Special thanks goes out to Weinstein Beverage
for their donations of a pepsi machine and pepsi products and to Columbia
Distributing for their donation of the large beer bottles, beer products and
helping us with the "T" shirts. Also to the individuals who
attended our game feed - you are the ones who make the game feed a success.
Awards::Sportsmen of the Year award went to Matt Gutzwiler
and Outstanding Special Recognition awards went to Pete Lopushinsky and Bill
Stegeman.
Upcoming Events:The Mule Deer Foundation will have their banquet
Saturday, April 20th at the Chelan County Fairgrounds. Doors open at 4:00pm,
dinner at 6:30pm. Contact people are Wayne Christensen at 663-3761 or Nick
Brunner at 665-2422.
Help Wanted:Each year the membership spends countless volunteer
hours and miles driven helping our local WDFW. We need to help each other do an
accurate job of logging our volunteer hours and miles. Is there anyone who
would be responsible to collect this information????? If so please contact Bill
Stegeman at 663-7529.
Department Report:: Bob Perleberg is passing on some information
that might be of interest to some of you. The Blue Mountain spring black bear
hunt applications, licenses and tags were available Jan. 1 and are due not
later than midnight March 10, 2002. Turkey season runs April 15 to May 15. You
will need a new license and tag. Fishing opens March 1 in the Columbia Basin
lakes. General lowland lakes the fishing season opens Saturday, April 27. Beau
Patterson will be counting sage hens and sharptail grouse during March and
April. He's the other new Department Biologist. Call him at 663-9764. Tom
McCall reports the pigmy rabbit survey has been delayed until further notice.
We Need Your Help:: With the budget crunch the state is in, Gov.
Locke has directed the Office of Financial Management (O.F.M.) to see where
cuts can be made in various state departments. Even after a WDFW state wide 15%
cut, the O.F.M. wants to close two of the six regional offices, along with some
other recommended cuts. Our Region II would be somewhat split in half, with
half going to Spokane and the other half to Yakima. Our Region II office would
loose two employees but would remain open for other Department personnel not affected
by the cuts. Anyone west of the Columbia River from Oroville south would have
to drive to or call the Yakima office for regional business. Those in East
Wenatchee would have to contact the Spokane regional office. We had people at
the game feed signing petitions not to close our regional office and if you
will call Mike Sprague at 782-7529, he will mail a copy of the associations
letter to you so that you can mail a copy to one and / or all of the following
legislators: Senator, Linda Evans Parlett; Representatives, Clyde Ballard and
Mike Armstrong. Their addresses are in the front of your phone book. Mail one
also to Gov. Locke and the WDFW Director Jeff Koenings at the Department of
Fish & Wildlife, Olympia, WA 98501-1091.
Program:Tom McCall has volunteered his time to address the lynx
hair issue. So if you have any questions or concerns about the lynx issue,
you'll have an opportunity to air them.
Membership:If you did not attend the game feed and want to renew
your membership contact Ron Bruno at 884-9369 so you can get your membership
updated. It can also be done via our website at www.ncwoutdoors.com
