General Meeting:May 10th, 2004 ,at Eagles Lodge - 7:30 pm
*************************************************************************************
Elections:Without much arm twisting, the current slate of
officers were re-elected. Early on, Keith Boyd indicated a desire to step down
as treasurer and Randy Hein indicated an interest in the position and he was
elected to fill that position.
Money Spent:A $875 power auger was purchased to plant trees down
at Pete's. The auger will remain with Pete. $1500 will be donated to help pay
for the cost to do a site plan for the WDFW "Beebe Springs" project.
$800 has been donated to three youth fishing days, put together by Rick
Graybill. We have funded two baseball teams, a youth and a golden age team. A
WDFW mountain goat radio collar was purchased for $2700 plus an additional $500
for flying time tracking goats. The collar will stay within the Lake Chelan
area. $3200 in grant money from the local Mule Deer Foundation chapter will be
spent over the next two years to buy plants for deer habitat improvement. About
$800 was spent to purchase plants that were planted April 24th by volunteers
and a local boy scout group. This project was spearheaded by Pete Lopushinsky
and Rick Isaacson.
Trees:Pete and Rick report some 300 trees still need to be
planted. They'll keep us posted as to a planting date and a work party will be
needed to get the job done.
Department Report: Bob Perleberg reports that special hunting
permit applications start May 15th with a deadline of June 20th. They can be
purchased online or by phone, not at license dealers. The Deptartment office
can no longer sell licenses. To get this changed please contact our local
representatives:

WDFW Workshop:The next WDFW Workshop will be in Olympia on June
4-5. Tentative agenda for 2004-05 is public safety cougar removal (briefing).
Following that, the next meeting will be August 6-7 in Everett.
Clean Up Day:June 19th has been set as our cleanup day in the
Stemilt Basin and up the hill including the Colockum. The cleanup starts from
Beehive Reservoir east into the Tarpiscan. There will be a second group
cleaning up the Blue Grade area. Pete Lopushinsky will have a crew that will
clean from the 4 corners. Ron Bruno will be working with the Eastmont FFA doing
the Blue Grade area. The Colockum ./ Stemilt crew will meet at the Beehive
Grange Hall 9:00am. Bring a sack lunch, water and foul weather gear.
Refreshments will be provided for all. We'll up date next month where Ron
Bruno's crew will meet. We have two large areas to cover so all the volunteers
we can get will be appreciated. Contacts are Ron Bruno at 884-9367, Matt Gutzwiler
at 663-1526 and Pete Lopushinsky at 663-6260.
Upcoming Events:The RMEF (Clockum Chapter) will have their
banquet at the Chelan County Fairgrounds May 15th. For tickets contact Wayne
Christensen at 663-3761 and for general information contact Steve Adams at
662-2610.
March Program Thank You:: We wish to thank Cliff Rice (WDFW
mountain goat specialist) for an excellent program on mountain goats. We hope
he had a safe trip back to Olympia after our meeting. His presentation
motivated us to fund a radio collar and fly time for the Lake Chelan goat herd.
May Program: Kerri Sullivan will speak to us about wildlife
crossings on our highways. Fielding some questions will be Peter Singleton
(biologist with USFS), Paul Fielder (c.c. with the PUD), Tom McCall (WDFW) and
a representative from the D.O.T. Areas of concern will be wildlife crossing,
road kill and possible funding. It should be a great program so bring a friend
and enjoy.
