Elections: The
current slate of officers are starting their 2nd year of a two-year
term.
Clean Up Day: We would like you to set aside May 30th
to do some local clean up. If we can
get enough bodies, we would like to send out 4 large clean up crews---
hopefully 8 to 10 per crew. The 4 areas
of concern are: Stemilt Basin, Douglas
Creek, Blue Grade and Swakane. If we
don’t get the volunteers, we’ll scale back the clean-up sites. Matt Gutzwiler is making arrangements for
garbage bags, dumpsters and etc. All
you need to bring are gloves, water, lunch, suitable clothing and a rake and
scoop shovel if you could. Meet at the Union Hall, 180 rock Island Road,
Saturday, May 30th at 8:00am.
You can contact Matt at 663-1526 as soon as possible so he can get a
head count.
Upcoming Events: The RMEF (Colockum Chapter) will have their
banquet at the Chelan County Fairgrounds May 16th. Contact person is Norm Gutzwiler (662-2255)
or (Cell: 670-5601) and for tickets call Holly and Jeff Berdan (663-2419) Doors
open at 4:30 and dinner is at 6:00pm.
On June 6th
there will be a kids fishing day at the Leavenworth Fish Hatchery, 9:00am –
Noon. Each participant must pay $5.00
for which they’ll receive a rod, reel and “T” shirt. Volunteers are needed.
You might want to bring along a pair of nail clippers and pliers. Contact Dave Graybill (cell) 668-3474. Kids can pre-register either at Hooked on

Neal Hedges with the C-D Land Trust asked for help
to do a spring development on the Burt’s Property June 11, 12 or 13th.
Pole
Assembly Help Needed: Set aside June 3rd, to
assemble fishing poles for the June 6th fishing day at the
Leavenworth Hatchery. We will meet at
his home at 9:00am at 1959 Mackenzie Lane in East Wenatchee --- down Rock
Island road from E-Z Auto Wrecking.
Turn left and go up the hill.

be several hundred poles to assemble.
Orcas Island Kid’s Camp: Applications and other info are available from Gordy Goodwin for
the kid’s summer camp on Orcas Island.
You may contact Gordy at 663-3620 for dates and other details. The camps are around the middle two
weeks of July and applications are due to Gordy by 6/1/09.
We
Are Official Now: Through a lot of hard work and
a lengthy paper trail by Randy Hein, we officially have our
501
C-3 non-profit status.
Hwy
97-A Fence: The 97-A fence-funding project
is complete and the bids go out May 30th for the first phase. Phase 2 bids will go out hopefully in
November with construction starting in the spring.
ROBO
Deer: The membership voted in April to fund the
cost to rebuild the robotic deer for enforcement use.
Captured
Big Horn Sheep: Dave Volesen reported 24
Bighorn Sheep were captured in the Manson and Swakane Canyon areas and radio
collars were put on 12 or 14 sheep.
Dave and the department express appreciation to those who helped with
the capture.
Department Report: Special permit applications for deer, elk, goat, sheep, moose and
fall turkey hunts will be available from April 20th to May 20th. Special cougar permit applications will be
available from August 3rd to midnight August 31st. Late applications will not be accepted. Applications may be purchased online, at local license dealers or
by calling
1-866-246-9452. Refer to the big Game Hunting Seasons and
Regulations Pamphlet for hunter choice, numbers, quotas and other information.
Work
Hours: Ron Poppe would like for us to continue
logging your volunteer hours. Please
keep your club hours separate from Department hours. You can contact Ron at (662-3957).
C.O.R.T.
Class: Upcoming CORT classes are Okanogan, May 20th,
Moses Lake June18th and Wenatchee July 22nd. The two-hour class starts at 7:00pm. If you have questions contact Ron Poppe
(662-3957).
Dart
Gun: Sgt. Doug Ward was present to personally
thank the club for the dart gun.
Special
Thanks: Our thanks to Jeff Thayer for the
informative report on tribal and non-tribal deer and elk issues in the Colockum
and other areas.
May
Program: Corky Broaddus with the Leavenworth Fish
Hatchery is our planned program. If she
isn’t able to come we will have Judy DelaVergue speak to a Bull Trout (Dolly
Varden) fish issues. She is with the
U.S. Fish & Wildlife Services.
