Welcome Sportsmen, To Another Year Of Outdoor Activities and Fellowship

A New Year Begins:  With the membership’s guidance and help the Executive Board hopes to provide you with another great year.  Hopefully your summer was time for family and friends and you are ready for another year of outdoor activities and educational meetings.

Vacancy:  If you or someone you know is interested in serving as a Director, contact any of the Directors.  Other contacts could be Ron Bruno (884-9369), Ron Poppe (662-3957) or Matt Gutzwiler (663-1526).

Freighted Meat:  On a prearranged approval, the Sportsman’s Association will pay the freight on up to 60 lbs. of exotic or other wild game meat from an individual.  This is being done on game meat flown in from a distant place.

Early Call For Game Meat:  Ron Bruno, as always, is looking for wild game meat.  There are coolers at Neil Fulwiler (663-9076) and Ron Bruno (884-9369) as well as at George Komro, located at 1570 Tedford (884-5359).  Ron has also made arrangements with Fred Perry of Eastmont Custom Meats to receive donated and / or emergency wild game meat that is locker ready (skinned and clean).  You can contact Fred at 884-3777.

Meat Cutter / Meat Receivers:  Ron Bruno can use some meat cutters who will help cut and wrap meat.  Also, people he can call on at a moments notice to pick up and care for unexpected donated game meat.  Get in touch with Ron if you can help (884-9369).

Website:  Check out our website at www.wenatcheesportsmensassociation.com   It is being updated by Ron Bruno and / or Ron Poppe.  Look it over and give your thoughts, either by email or at one of our meetings.

Wind Farm:  The wind farm in the lower Colockum area is closed to hunting due to construction on the site.  If you have questions contact Jennifer Diaz at jenniferdiaz@psc.com.

Department Report:  All Canada goose hunting in “Goose Management Areas 4 & 5” will be closed until further notice.  Check out pages 12 & 16 of the Water Fowl / Upland Game Bird hunting pamphlet for more info.

Effective 8/15/09 until further notice anglers who possess a valid two pole endorsement may use up to two lines while fishing in lakes, ponds and reservoirs open to fishing.  There are many exceptions across the state.  Blackbird island pond (Chelan County) and pit pond (Douglas County) are two local exceptions.

Be especially careful while driving in the outdoors during our extreme hot, dry fire potential season.  Always visualize where your vehicles catalytic converter is when parking along grassy roadways.

“Youth Only” hunting for quail and pheasants opens September 26-27.

Work Parties:  Here are a few work parties coming up that might arouse your interest.  Leavenworth’s salmon fest is set for September 19 & 20, 2009.  Contact Ron Bruno (884-9369) or Ron Poppe (662-3957).

Rebuilding springs and guzzlers up behind Neil Fulwiler’s place.  This will involve some hiking down hill and quad use, contact Ron Poppe (662-3957).

In November we’ll help Marc Hallet fill feeders on the Butte and help Pete do the same in the Colockum area.  We’ll keep you posted on feeder fillings.  Another contact is Bill Stegeman (663-7529) and / or our updated website.

Fencing:  The 97-A fencing is moving along and should be completed sometime in October.

Logging Volunteer Hours:  Ron Poppe says keep reporting those volunteer hours and miles to him (662-3957).

C.O.R.T. Class:  Ron Poppe will be conducting the final C.O.R.T. class in Moses Lake, September 17th, 7:00pm at the fire station.  For more information contact Ron at (662-3957).
