2010
Steel Workers Hall- 180 Rock Island Road - East Wenatchee
Elections: Nomination of
officers will take place at the April meeting.
Elections will be at the May meeting.
According to the bylaw change approved at the March meeting, the
president shall be selected from the Board of Directors, but the vice president,
secretary and treasurer may be selected from the general membership. All officers become members of the board.
Also, remember all nominees must be present to accept the nomination or
acknowledge their acceptance in a letter to the Board.
Upcoming Events: Kids
fishing day – April 17th, at the Rock Island pit ponds. Contact is Ron Bruno and you can reach him at
884-9369. Volunteers are needed and
should bring pliers, sinkers and power bait.
Rods and reels in good condition could be used for this event and may be
dropped off at WDFW office on the Chelan Highway.
On June 5th Kids Fishing Day will
be held at the Leavenworth Fish Hatchery.
More details will be sent later.
There are
several public school activities in East Wenatchee and Wenatchee that could use
volunteer help. They are Eastmont Middle
Schools in May; Wenatchee First Grade Shrub Steppe Hike on April 13, 14, &
15; Wenatchee Fifth Grade Shrub Steppe Program on May 4, 5, & 6; and
Wenatchee Pioneer Middle School 6th Grade Camp, May 26, 27, & 28. These are
all getting kids out in the natural environment, giving many of them their
first exposure to nature. If you could
help or have questions, contact the schools directly or contact Herb Troxel, herbt@nwi.net,
509-663-6659.
The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation banquet will be May
15th at the Fair Grounds in
Cashmere. Contact Norm Gutzwiler,
662-2255 or Jeff and Holly Berdan at 663-2419.
As soon as the roads permit we will be working on the
grant projects in the Colockum. These
include spring restoration, catch basin replacement, guzzler repairs, and
feeder replacement or rebuild. This is a
good opportunity to get out and see some game and give a little back for
habitat improvement. More hands are always
needed. Contact Bill Stegeman, Ron
Poppe, or come to the meeting.
Department Report: The Washington Department of Fish and Game
will hold its April meeting in Leavenworth on Friday the 9th and
Saturday the 10th. It will be
at the Best Western Icicle Inn at
8:30 am. On the agenda are changes to
permit drawing methods, hunting equipment changes, damage protection and
landowner permit hunts, raffle and auction hunts and land transactions. There will be an opportunity for public
input, but not on agenda items. We
should show support for them for bringing their meeting to our area.
It’s time to renew your hunting and fishing licenses,
which are available on-line, (fishunt.dfw.wa.gov), by phone, or at retail outlets.
Turkey Season will be opening on the 15th
of May.
The general fishing opener for lowland lakes will be
April 24th. Some lakes opened
on March 1st and streams and rivers open June 5th.
